An accessible WordPress theme for the UK's leading VOIP business service provider.
Project Overview
Buzz Connect has been at the leading edge of VOIP technology solutions for thousands of businesses since 1995.
We were approached by Buzz Connect in 2018 to design and develop a new website that would position them as a high quality, customer-focused supplier within the VOIP business marketplace. The existing website was built in 2013 so was outdated and did not portray the right image for the company. The new site needed to reflect the good reputation for quality work and excellent customer service, while ensuring continuity of brand alongside other sites in the Buzz partner network.
We helped Buzz Connect to create a brand new, highly accessible e-commerce website, making it easier for visitors to find what they need, and easier for the team to process VOIP subscriptions within the CRM.

In-depth discovery
We led an in-depth discovery session with the Buzz Connect team, which allowed us to get to know their range of products and services and to identify the target audience who would be using the website. The main user base included small and medium-sized businesses that need to communicate while on the go. Therefore, the website needed to appeal to business owners and budget-conscious start-up companies who can scale VOIP with their business as it grows.
Due to the depth of information surrounding VOIP technology the new website needed to be easy to navigate and find information, such as FAQs and customer support. In addition, there needed to be an easy way of comparing the various business VOIP package features and subscription costs available.

As most users accessing the website will be on mobile devices, we started by planning responsive layouts for the best user experience on these devices. We had to ensure the technical features for each VOIP package were easy to read and the most popular packages were positioned where they could be seen first.
Resource Filter
The existing website had a wealth of information about Buzz Connect business VOIP packages and services, however, this was difficult to navigate and there was no solution to filter or search the frequently asked questions or resources available.
We created a custom post type in the theme so Buzz Connect's team can log in to the CMS and quickly publish questions and answers. This can be filtered using a taxonomy for pre-sales and after-sales related FAQ's and includes a custom search function that makes it easy for users to find exactly what they are looking for.
Plugin Development
We created a bespoke WordPress plugin using the VUE JS framework that can be used as an addon with WooCommerce to process VOIP orders and sales. Visitors can select their subscription package, the number of users required, handsets, and any optional call bundles, then proceed to sign up for direct debit and real-time payment processing.
Our addon plugin creates custom post types inside the CMS for packages, handsets and call bundles, giving Buzz Connect full control over subscriptions and products they sell on the website. We also developed a feature within the plugin to save incomplete orders as entries in a custom post type, so the Buzz Connect marketing department can retrieve customer orders and follow up on any missed sales.
Streamlined WordPress CMS
Buzz Connect's original website was already built on a WordPress theme, however, it was tricky to use, which the team found frustrating. The existing theme made it difficult to create new content layouts and was restricted to a static custom field template layout only with limited modules.
By creating a new streamlined WordPress theme and modular page builder, and providing comprehensive training to the team, the new website is much easier for them to manage internally, allowing them to update and completely restructure page layouts, case studies, product images, subscriptions, package bundles and business VOIP features.
